Summary
Adhering to the strategic role played by the use of information technology and communications in creating sustainable development in the Jordanian communities, and starting out of the importance of achieving the knowledge economy; His Majesty King Abdullah II Ben Al-Hussein introduced the initiative in 2001 to establish knowledge stations in the various regions of the Kingdom in order to reduce the knowledge gap (digital), thus, achieving a balanced development among them. Accordingly, the National Information Technology Center (NITC) established 115 knowledge stations up to the end of 2006. These stations were sponsored mainly by The King Abdullah Development Fund, some local organizations, and the income made by the stations themselves, in addition, to the support of NITC. This study aims to assess the role of knowledge stations in the development process and reducing the knowledge gap among all classes of the society, and to assess the satisfaction of the beneficiaries of the activities of those stations and their economic, social, and cultural impacts. To achieve the objectives of the study, primary and secondary methodologies based on the review of previous studies were put to use. Moreover, the study included: Holding of discussion panels with the local communities, workshops, and gathering information and data by conducting surveys. It should be noted that, four surveys were designed. The first survey aimed at respondents from outside the station, the second one aimed at beneficiaries of the inside, the third was for the employees of the station, and the fourth survey was for community leaders. Before choosing these surveys, they were approved by conducting a Pilot Study in the Governorates of Irbid and Zarqa, and then they were reviewed, adjusted, and presented to the coordinator of the study at the National Information Technology Center.
