Summary
I. Summary: General Conclusions This project is potentially very important for Ghana. It is using past experiences and expertise to further develop methodologies that can be widely applied throughout the country. * Strong partnerships are in the process of being developed, which can assure the effectiveness and sustainability of SLM activities of the project. * Farmers and partners are keen in being involved in the project. There is however the need to closely monitor the project due to the potential risks resulting from issues related to land tenure, lack of information on regulations, and issues of effective access to markets by farmers. * The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, the Executing Agency in Ghana, was unable to provide guidance for the Steering Committee for about a year. This situation has been rectified and the Ministry has designated a focal person as Chairman of the Steering Committee. II. Main Recommendations * Activities should be concentrated on the numbers of sites presently being managed in the five project areas. * The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment should continue to provide strong leadership of the Steering Committee. * SLaM management should familiarize itself with UNDP's financial administration guidelines immediately, to reduce delays in receiving payments. * SLaM should develop an up-scaling strategy by the end of the project for future follow-up activities. * The logical framework should be updated to render the indicators for outcome 2 more attainable. * Staff supports for the coordinating unit and zonal coordinators should be seriously reviewed with the aim of providing an administrative assistant for the coordinating office and assistants for the zonal coordinators. * The project should involve more partners in its implementation by sharing out tasks on field monitoring, dissemination of information, policy and socio-economics. * Information sharing n
