Recommendations
1
  1. Increase coordination at both technical and decision-making levels between UN agencies: A need for greater coordination was strongly expressed within outcome groups and between outcome groups. A closer and critical inspection on the role of UNDAF Technical Team in fulfilling this gap could be undertaken as establishing new coordinating committees at this stage of UNDAF implementation is not ideal.
2

Conduct a detailed exercise to ascertain the sustainability of all institutional building efforts carried out under UNDAF. This would help in identifying areas where the capacity building efforts were not effective. Addressing any gaps in the capacity building efforts undertaken can minimise repetitive capacity building efforts in the next UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).

3

Greater transparency of planned annual activities may lead to more synergies with other implementing partners, such as government institutions or CSOs. Sharing annual plans with potential partners or publishing online may achieve greater coherence of joint efforts to the intended outcomes.

[Added: 2019/12/16] [Last Updated: 2021/03/26]
Note the key actions from UNDAF management responses reflect actions pertaining to UNDP. 2020/01 Completed UN Maldives will employ a transparent and inclusive approach in drafting the new UNSDCF. It will rely on UN System-wide competences and strengths to come up with and deliver on outcomes of the Framework, with reference to the UN Reform’s call for a nimble UN approach in accordance with the principle of “needs-based, tailored country presence”. The RC will lead on the internal UN discussion (including those agencies that are not physically present in the country) to understand gaps, synergies and overlaps in capacities and operational resources based on individual entities’ mandate, comparative advantage and added value - to priority areas. UNDP as part of UNCT, will review the UNDP internal capacities needed to achieve UNSDCF outcomes and how the capacities can be made available, taking into account the principles of efficiency and impact. The decision on the UNCT configuration will be jointly reviewed and agreed with the Government of Maldives. History
