1. Recommendation:

The project was instrumental for the creation of the MATOPIBA coalition. This multistakeholder platform would need to find resources in the short term to continue operating.

The MATOPIBA coalition format had been adapted since March 2020. Remote bilateral meetings started to take place to address specific actions to be supported by the companies according to the work plan consolidated in 2019. Discussions are ongoing considering the possibility of the MATOPIBA coalition to be incorporated as a Working Group in the Brazilian Coalition for Forests, Climate and Agriculture.

2. Recommendation:

The financial sustainability of the conservation units that were created, will benefit from dialogue with the private sector to engage their financial support as it has already been applied in the past.

3. Recommendation:

For partners such as EMBRAPA, this was a bridge project piloting different interventions whose results and gaps should lead into a second phase, whose design should stress scaling up good practices and certification, further explore incentives, and strengthen the financial inclusion across the value chain.

6. Recommendation:

For the Outcome 2, the project developed a tool kit for landscape planning, and it would be important to ensure that MAPA and EMBRAPA capacities are built to use this kit.

7. Recommendation:

It is important to ensure institutional planning and budgeting incorporate resources to allow the continuity to the low carbon agriculture practices, such as no-tillage, recovery of degraded pastures and crop-livestock integration, carried out by the project.

Key results such as the sustainability radar and the information platform should formalize the institutional commitment to ensure their operation and continuous updating.

The Sustainability Radar was finalized in December 2021 and is undergoing minor adjustments on its functionalities’ improvement. The platform was presented to major public and private sector partners and its financial sustainability and web hosting is still under discussion.

9. Recommendation:

At the moment, there is no clear exit strategy, as most actors interviewed don´t know what will happen after the project ends. The exit strategy needs to be built together with project partners and communicated to all stakeholders involved.

Project closing meetings with stakeholders took place remotely in December 2021. CI presented the strategy to ensure continuity of activities under the sustainable production agenda in the region. GGP lessons are being incorporated to fully consolidate an exit strategy considering partners’ inputs from the last round of discussions.

11. Recommendation:

The project generated an important amount of information for different audiences. General concern from stakeholders is about ensuring that there will be adequate dissemination to beneficiaries and institutions involved to share the material, lessons and valuable resources generated through closing events, social networks and websites that host all the information.

A communication strategy to disseminate the information generated under the project was developed in July by an expert consultancy and carried out until December 2021 (social media presence, online events, podcasts, newspaper articles, videos). CI plans to continuously engage different audiences to raise awareness on the sustainable production agenda in Matopiba, by adopting all the materials generated under GGP project (technical notes, booklets, publications).

12. Recommendation:

The project's exit strategy should consider the need to reinforce the training of municipal technical personnel concerning the new conservation units, highlighting their importance and usefulness for the population.

The project's exit strategy is under consolidation after the round of discussions with partners in December 2021. Conservation Units creation and implementation learnings were mentioned in the project closing document shared with stakeholders.
