Through National Programme Director (NPD), organize CBD Steering Committee meeting to brief on ECBP MTE, identify measures for strengthening operational effectiveness of CBD Steering, e.g. support to International Year of Biodiversity in 2010 and preparations for COP 10. Additionally, CBD SC, along with ECBP PSC and UNDP and ECD projects, can help identify key ministries and opportunities for integrating biodiversity into sectoral plans and policies.

A series of activities, by COSU, VAC, PMO and the field projects themselves will be planned to address this issue.

Through NPD, encourage partnership with MEP?s Depts. of Education and Communication and Ecology and Nature Conservation through specific activities, such as preparation for International Year of Biodiversity into 2010: VAC will also work more directly with COSU and field projects to bring together awareness activities and materials, as part of the knowledge management task, above.

The MTE proposes a joint PMO, VAC and COSU mission to all field projects. However, this might not be optimal, in part because of the time this would involve and the attention taken from other activities, but also because COSU, PMO and VAC already have a process for identifying policy and awareness-relevant projects and activities and have begun this review, in connection with the identification of criteria for extension of selected field projects.

Response: This is an issue that should be raised with the CBD Steering Committee, as part of the MTE recommendations, since it would require consensus among key agencies.
