The University of the South Pacific, Ministry of I Taukei Affairs and Ministry of Environment and Waterways have conducted at least 6 consultations with communities. In planning for further consultations, it is suggested that they incorporate FPIC discussions with other Projects/initiatives workshops to ensure a wider of coverage of communities (across the country) and to solicit stakeholders views from Government, Non-Government Organizations(NGOs), Private Sector, Tertiary Institutes and Statutory Organizations.

During the ABS Policy workshop, stakeholder discussed the advantages and disadvantages of pursuing a policy versus legalization. It was noted that legislation may take up to 10 years to fulfill.
