There is a growing interest in directing the huge potential of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in development. Since the establishment of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in 1999, there has been a keen effort to introduce relevant technology in Egypt. MCIT has shown a special interest in pioneering ICT, whereas the ministry has taken strives in its introduction at various levels of society. These efforts are having a considerable effect in Egypt's perception of ICT and its benefits. MCIT has also directed a special focus on the harnessing and utilization of ICT for development (ICT4D). Smart School Network Project The main objective of this evaluation of outcome of Smart Schools Network Pilot Project (SSNP) is to assess the actual versus the expected benefits, i.e., outputs of Smart Schools Network and Community Learning Centers in different communities in four Governorates. In general, findings of the assessment indicated that SSNP expected outputs have not been completely achieved. Illiteracy Eradication CD Along the same lines of thoughts, rolling out the utilization of the CD nationwide will be the major focus for the next period, in line with the deliverables set forth in the original project definition. Mobile ICT Unit (MICTU) The MICTU is an ICT promotional tool. It has the capacity to generate high community mobilization and to gain significant visibility at a cost which must be sustainable. This suggests two major needs: maximizing the expected benefits from this investment and searching for mechanisms to sustain unit operation.
