Lessons
1.
  1. EDP Follows Integrated Approach:- The EDP II followed an integrated and collaborative approach in which implementing partners such as TVETs, Universities, CSOs & CBOs, ECCSA, and Regional Government Bureaus like Enterprise and Industry Development Bureaus, Trade Bureus, and City Municipals participates in program implementation including cost-sharing. This approach is the best practice EDC and UNDP has adopted to achieve results and should be employed in other related projects in the future.

2.

2. Specially designed program for promoting entrepreneurship: - The EDP program is the only entity in its kind established to promote entrepreneurship through specialized capacity and competitiveness enhancing trainings and BDS advisory supports. It also focuses on youth and women entrepreneurial development endeavors.

3.

3. Partnership and Cost-sharing between collaborating partners: - The EDP II program from its very nature was designed to implement interventions in partnership with stakeholders and cost-sharing approach. In program implementation, EDP /UNDP covers allowances of trainers and coffee and tea expenses, trainees cover their own per diems, TVETs, Universities and related partners cover training whole expenses as per pre-agreed terms. Such a cost-sharing approach can be taken as best practice and adopted in other related projects as well.

4.

4.Training can change attitude of people, will promote entrepreneurs: - It has been learnt from EDP II that training can change the attitude and thought of people about entrepreneurship; training promote entrepreneurship amongst SMEs. It can be considered as key instrument and mechanism to develop entrepreneurial knowledge and skill of those engaged in SME endeavors.

5.

5.Use of standard and customized training packages for different trainees and BDS Advisors: Standard and customized trainings that fits to the needs of different trainees can be taken as best practices of the program. The same applies to BDS advisors who have one on one BDS as well as group coaching modality.

6.

6. Use of Training Consultants on Part Time Basis: - EDP II uses part time trainers and consultants on part time basis. Working with independent trainers trained and certified by the program on a call base without the need of maintaining them on payroll basis has enhanced the efficiency of the program.

7.

7.Enhanced Capacity of Trainers: - Developing the capacity of the trainers has enabled the program to have exceptionally good trainers in the market. This is attributed to the clear trainer’s development system being implemented by the EDP II program.
